How can we better understand the principle of light variation?

Are you scared and lost when it comes to electrical language? Don’t panic! In fact, some terms can be complicated to understand and use. That’s why we’ve decided to give you a fuller explanation of the benefits of dimmable luminaires.

More often used, the term ‘dimmable’ means ‘variable’. A dimmable luminaire gives you the option of adjusting the light intensity to suit your current needs and desires. For a dimmable lamp to work, there are two major conditions.
-Firstly, you absolutely must have a compatible bulb. If your bulb is incompatible, there will be no dimming.
-Secondly, your luminaire must be fitted with a dimmer.

Below is a video explaining how a dimmable light works.

There are two versions of light fixtures with a dimmable system:
-First, step-dimming systems. In this setup, the light fixture has different preset light levels you can choose based on your needs. For example, some dimmable lamps have a button that lets you change light intensity in stages.
-Second, there are dimmable fixtures with progressive lumen variation. Ranging from 0% to 100%, the lumens adapt according to your mood and the room to be illuminated. When set at 0%, the fixture is off, and when set at 100%, it’s at full power. Floor lamps with a “rotary” switch are a good example of this.

Watch the video below to understand even more about how dimmable lighting works.

As we mentioned in our examples, there are several ways to adjust the intensity of your light: using a switch, a button, or even touch control! Dimmable lights make daily life more comfortable; they align closely with your everyday needs… They allow you to create various atmospheres and adapt your lighting depending on the time of day and the specific occasion. Finally, dimmable lights help you make significant energy savings. By adjusting your energy usage, you’ll see a decrease in your electricity bill!

» Good for the planet and your daily life, dimmable lighting is revolutionizing the world of illumination! »

For certain dimmable setups, like those with touch switches, it is safer to consult an electrician to ensure an effective installation. Similarly, for dimmable ceiling lights, the dimming function is built directly into the electrical circuit; make sure to consult your electrician.
